Small businesses are being targeted

Small businesses face the same IT challenges that large businesses face, namely protecting their data from lost/corruption and security threats. According to Symantec's Internet Security and Threat Report 2013, small businesses were the path of least resistance for attackers in 2012. Attacks against SMBs increased from 18% in 2011 to 31% in 2012.

A study by Symantec revealed that only 1 out of 5 (23%) SMBs backed up their data regularly. Also, the study revealed that SMBs experienced an average of 3 outages within the past 12 months, with an outage costing on average $15,000 a day. The leading causes were viruses, hackers, power outages and natural disasters.

SMBs are vulnerable and targeted more these days than in the past. By infecting or hacking an SMB, hackers can gain control to larger enterprises, such as your bank, credit card company or even your customers.
